Getting stains off leather is not that difficult if you have the right material to clean it with. There are two types of leather: unfinished and finished. Unfinished leather is a type of leather that has a rough surface. It is usually seen in cowboy or western outfits. On the other hand, finished leather is the one with a smooth surface. It looks polished like leather shoes.
Cleaning Finished Leather
It is simple to clean finished leather. First, you will need some soap. Grab a soap that has moisturizer or moisturizing properties. This helps keep the leather moist and not dried.
Rub some soap on a damp cloth. Try to bring it into a light lather. Do not even think of rinsing the leather through water. To rinse the soap, wipe the leather with another damp cloth. Be careful not to put too much water on your leather or else it will damage the fabric. It does not need to be soaking wet. It just needs to have enough water to do the cleaning.
Once the soap is removed, you can now wipe the leather with a dry cloth. If you have some leather conditioner, you can use that too to make the leather look nicer.
Cleaning Unfinished Leather
This type of leather is not as sensitive as the finished leather. But still, you cannot rinse it or soak it in water. Running water can cause cracks on your leather.
Get soap and clean pieces of cloth. It works better if you can find a saddle soap. Rub the soap onto the damp cloth and lather it lightly to the leather. Make sure you do this lightly. Lathering the leather with pressure may have an effect on the quality of your item. It may flake off some skin, which completely destroys the design of your item.
Once you are done, wipe the soap and allow the leather to dry. Unfinished leather is better treated with oil instead of leather conditioner.
