How to Wash Baby Blankets

Chomp!

Baby blankets should be washed once a week to prevent your child from attaining skin irritation. Blankets keep babies warm and cozy during cold weather or during a windy day. It is very handy. I keep one in the car and in my baby’s diaper bag. If I forget to bring my son’s jacket, I always have a blanket ready.

Larger blankets could be used to cover the floor so that your baby will have a clean area to play and sleep on. I use one during family picnics. I lay a blanket on the grass so my sons could rest comfortably after an afternoon of playing ball.

The best way to wash blankets thoroughly is via washers. However, always remember to wash baby items together. Never wash baby blankets or other large items with your regular laundry. Use baby detergent in washing baby items. Regular detergents contain strong cleaning chemical ingredients that may cause skin irritation.

For safer options, use natural baby detergents. Such products are free of harmful chemicals compared to conventional detergents. Famous non-toxic detergent brands are Seventh Generation, BabyGanics, and Mountain Green. Their formulas are made from naturally derived ingredients, which assure your baby’s safety.

To make laundry easier, pre-treat the stain on the blanket. Wash the stained area using a stain removal pen or spray. Apply the stain removal formula and let it sit for a few minutes until the stain is melted and easy to wipe out.

Some liquid laundry detergents could be used as a pre-treatment formula. Apply a small amount of the detergent on the stained area. Using an old toothbrush, brush the fabric until the stain is thoroughly removed. Or, you could lift one side of the fabric and rub it on the area as in hand washing. Knead the fabric thoroughly to get the stain out.

Tumble dry baby blankets on a low setting. Too much heat may damage the fluffiness of the fabric. The blanket may also shrink and get deformed under high heat. Hanging the blanket on your clothesline is a better option. Do not drain the water thoroughly when sun drying the clothes to prevent it from wrinkling.
