Catsup or Ketchup is one of the common stains you can find on your children’s clothes. Kids love catsup especially with fast food. A burger and fries meal is never complete without this condiment at the side.
Your success in removing stains depends on the age and size of the stain. If you leave stained clothes untreated for a longer period, it will be more difficult to clean. By treating the stain immediately, the clothes are more likely to come out clean.
There are several common household items you can use to remove ketchup stains. One of these efficient cleaning products is hydrogen peroxide. It is a chemical used in the hospital to clean and disinfect wounds. It also works effectively on stains like catsup. However, peroxide is not safe to use on all fabrics. It may have a bleaching effect and cause discoloration and damage. For safety purposes, test the garment first before treating the stain whole.
Dish liquid detergents are also effective in cleaning out ketchup stains. Pour a little amount on the stained area and rub it using a small brush or an old toothbrush. However, some liquid detergents contain dyes which can transfer to the fabric and cause another stain. Do a testing before treating the whole stained area.
You can also use your regular laundry detergent in removing catsup stains. Apply the detergent directly to the stained area. Allow it to set for a few minutes. Once the stain has dissolved or disappeared, wash the garment under regular cycle.
Before you put the clothes in the dryer, inspect if there’s any sign of the stains left. If the stain remains, repeat the steps until the stain is completely gone.
If there’s a tag, always follow the washing instructions written on it to prevent damage and discoloration. For special fabrics, like wool and silk, or those clothes specifically made for dry cleaning, take it to a professional cleaner. Do not wash it yourself or use D-I-Y stain removal treatment. It may damage the clothes permanently.
