Most mothers prefer to use liquid detergents because it is easier to dissolve compared to its powdered form. In using powder detergents, you have to dissolve it in hot water before actually pouring it in the washer. Powder detergents also leave residues in the fabric, which can cause irritation on your baby’s sensitive skin.
It is much easier to determine how much you’ll use with liquid detergents as well. Since most liquid detergents are concentrated, one measuring cup would be enough to clean a regular laundry load. If you’re using a high efficiency detergent, read the label first for appropriate measurements. This also goes the same when washing special fabrics.
On the other hand, there are just so many liquid detergent brands sold in the market today. If you are a new mom and is having a hard time shopping for the right baby detergent, here’s a list of my top recommended liquid detergents.
Dreft Laundry Detergent—this product is probably the most popular due to its amazing fragrance. Dreft leaves clothes smelling so good and fresh compared to other baby detergents. It is hypoallergenic and safe. However, if your child has ultra sensitive skin, you might want to reconsider using this product. It contains tons of perfumes, which may irritate your baby in the long run.
ALL Free and Clear—According to articles I’ve read, ALL Free and Clear is rated #1 by dermatologists. It is safe to use on children with sensitive skin and you don’t have to worry about its price tag. ALL Free and Clear is very inexpensive and can be availed in much lower price through coupons. I haven’t encountered problems using this detergent. In case your child has experienced irritation from this product, let me know.
BabyGanics Loads of Love—This is one of my favorite product to use on my sons’ clothes. I’ve been a huge fan of BabyGanics household products because it is safe, effective and non-toxic. Loads of Love is a non-toxic, baby safe product. It is made from naturally derived ingredients and is guaranteed safe to use even on most sensitive skins. It is available in natural lavender scent and scentless.
Seventh Generation Baby Laundry Detergent—this is the most popular natural detergent in the market today. Seventh Generation boasts using plant-derived cleaning agents, soil dispersant and non-animal derived enzymes as well as select active ingredients. It is non-toxic, biodegradable, hypoallergenic, free of phosphates and optical brighteners, and is free of dyes and fragrances.
Method Squeaky Green Rice Milk and Mallow Detergent—Method detergent is another non-toxic, plant-based detergent. However, it may not be the most practical product to buy. If you have a limited budget, you might find this product super expensive for your taste. Nevertheless, Method detergent is still a worthy buy.
